Afternoon snacks for work-from-home days, packed once a week
Working from home puts the kitchen twenty steps away, and the afternoon turns into a string of fridge visits. Five snack boxes packed on Sunday settle it in one go.
Home office
The desk, the files, and the follow-ups for people who administrate from the kitchen table.
Printing at home without regret
The printer that only fails when something is due, the cartridge that dried out in the drawer, the stack of misprints. Here is a setup that prints the first time.
The desk setup for a business run from a spare room
The business started at the kitchen table and now it has a room of its own, sort of. Here is a desk setup that keeps the work in there and the household out.
The gap on your resume is where you ran everything
The years you spent running a household look blank on paper. They were not. Here is how to find the work in them and answer the gap question without apologizing.
Cable management for people who have given up
Behind the desk is a nest of cables you have not looked at directly in two years. At least one of them is plugged into nothing at all.
The card and stamp drawer
The birthday is Saturday. It is Friday at nine, there is no card in the house, and the stamps are somewhere you can no longer name.
The photo backup you keep postponing
Eleven years of photos live on one phone and one old laptop. You have meant to back them up since spring, and the storage-full warning is back.
Shipping supplies, and the station that makes order fifty feel like order five
The shop is finally busy. Now every order means clearing the kitchen table, hunting for tape and handwriting an address, and it is eating your evenings.
The drawer of cables nobody can identify
You cannot throw any of them away, because one of them might be the only one for something. So the drawer keeps growing.
The Christmas card list that does not restart every year
Every December you rebuild the same list from nothing, and every December you get four addresses wrong.
The dining table that is also your desk
You work at it five days a week and eat at it seven, and in November you have to hand it back for a day.
The gift cupboard, and why it saves December
You have bought good gifts all year. In December you cannot find any of them, so you buy them again.
The room that became storage, and how to get it back
Nobody decided to turn the spare room into a warehouse. It happened one object at a time, and none of them were a decision.
Gifts for the woman who runs everything
She will tell you she needs nothing. What she wants is one recurring job taken off her, wrapped.
